Sleep Doctor Michael Breus Challenges Bloggers to Sleep Better... and to Write about Their Results
(PRWeb) January 21, 2007 -- Most Americans are sleep-deprived. According to the National Institutes of Health, at least 70 million Americans experience sleep problems like temporary insomnia for a few days or longer. Lack of quality sleep is a widespread problem in the United States, one that has a direct and profound impact on health, weight, appearance, productivity, relationships, and quality of life.
Sleep specialist Dr. Michael Breus, Ph.D., ABSM, the author of "Good Night: the Sleep Doctor's 4-Week Program to Better Sleep and Better Health," is extending a challenge to Americans to improve their sleep and to chronicle the positive impact a better, more rejuvenating sleep has on their daily lives.
Through March 19, he will be distributing to select bloggers free copies of his book, "Good Night," in conjunction with his company Sound Sleep Solutions' relaxation CD (currently offered to guests of the Crowne Plaza Hotel chain as part of their Sleep Advantage® program). In exchange for the sleep kit, Dr. Breus asks bloggers to commit to following his 4-week sleep program and tracking their experiences publicly on their sites.
Bloggers who complete the program and write about their efforts for the full 28 days, posting at least once a week, will be awarded a free half-hour sleep coaching consultation with Dr. Breus at the end of the one-month period. Interested bloggers can get involved in the program by visiting Dr. Breus's blog, The Insomnia Blog, at http://www.theinsomniablog.com.
Says Breus, "I think that the blogging community has been overlooked when it comes to health and specifically sleep. I know that once we attack the sleep issues of the web community we will be able to reach and help a ton of people."
About the Book:
"Good Night" is a non-pharmacologic program for getting a better night's rest. Says Breus in the introduction:
"This book is not about giving up coffee and alcohol entirely, locking yourself in your bedroom once the clock hits 9 p.m., or drastically changing your lifestyle to the point where you don't act (or feel) like yourself anymore. It's about making subtle modifications over time that are practical and reasonable. It's about manipulating a free asset in your life -- sleep -- to strike a balance between accomplishing all that you want in life while looking your best and defying the laws of aging."
Dr. Breus's challenge to bloggers coincides with the National Sleep Foundation's initiative, the Great American Sleep Challenge, which takes place between February 5 and March 19, 2007. More information can be found at www.sleepfoundation.org.
About Dr. Breus:
Michael Breus, PhD, is the co-founder of Sound Sleep Solutions and developer of the Sleep Advantage® program in the Crowne Plaza Hotels. He is WebMD's sleep expert and sleep disorders blogger and an AOL Health and Wellness Coach.
